Trivia Question: What’s nCino’s longest-running fundraising event that exemplifies all six of our core values: Have Fun, Make Someone’s Day, Be a Winner, Respect Each Other, Do the Right Thing, and Bring Your A-Game?
Answer: Extra Life!
In 2017, nCino employees organized the first Extra Life game day, inviting employees and their friends and families to participate in a weekend-long gaming event to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Donations fund critical, living-saving treatments and healthcare, innovative research, and medical equipment for the Hames and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital in Greenville, North Carolina.
One of Extra Life’s core volunteers and organizers, David Johnson, Software Engineer at nCino, explains: “Extra Life encourages people to have fun while raising money for their local children’s hospital.”
Extra Life was held in the Fun Zone at nCino’s Wilmington Headquarters and kicked off on Friday afternoon, August 16, with a happy hour for nCino employees and catered dinner. On Saturday, from 12pm-10pm, the Fun Zone was open to friends and family members of nCino employees. Saturday’s activities saw over 150 participants!
In earlier years, nCino’s Extra Life event included only video games. Since then, it’s expanded exponentially to include:
Ping Pong tournaments
Poker
Super Smash Bros tournament
Mario Kart tournament
Trivia
Music Bingo hosted by nPride
Board games and other party games
Lightsaber Duels!
A large selection of board games was provided by one of our sponsors, Cape Fear Games, a local Wilmington game store. In addition to the variety of games, a craft room was available for coloring and painting.
“What I love about Extra Life is that it’s non-stop activity, so you never get bored,” says Kalli Smith, Senior Product Marketing Manager at nCino. “My favorite event was 90s cartoon theme song trivia (and I almost won!). I love that friends and families of employees can attend as well. Since the money raised goes to an outstanding cause, it’s really a win-win, even if you lose the game you’re playing!”
Employees supported fundraising by purchasing t-shirts, buying raffle tickets, and outright donations. Each year, local businesses donate experiences or prize items to the raffle.
Some of this year’s raffle prizes included:
Oculus Quest 3
Battle House 10-Person Party Pack
Gift Bundle from Cape Fear Games
Meta Quest 3
Several 55-inch televisions
Elise Ironmonger, Director of Programs for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at Maynard Children’s Hospital, visited the Extra Life event to speak about some of the enrichment activities and specialized care happening at their facilities. Elise also presented nCino with the Partners in Hope Sponsor plaque for Extra Life, recognizing nCino as the largest contributor to Maynard Children’s Hospital through the Extra Life program for the second year running.
This year, nCino raised $8,908, all of which goes straight to helping provide life-saving care for children in need. Since 2017, nCino employees have raised over $70,000 for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
Extra Life 2024 runs through the end of the year, and nCino’s Extra Life team’s goal is to raise $14,000 by year’s end. To make a donation, visit nCino’s team page.
